Sainte Mére Eglise

On June 6th about 1 a.m., 15 000 paratroopers from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions were dropped above and around this town. The drop was not precise enough, so the paratroopers were scattered around the area; many landed in the middle of this town or were slaughtered before they reached the ground. One of the paratroopers, John Steele, who was stuck in the church tower is today remembered with a dummy placed there.
